Teacher
Julie started dancing at the tender age of two. She danced most days till she started school then walked from school everyday to do ballet classes. She learnt Tap, Scottish, Irish and Jazz. She sat for her first ballet exam and received honours from the RAD and received a scholarship to continue dancing. After ballet she then went on stage for various companies. Danced in most musicals, The King and I, The Music Man, Oklahoma, West Side Story, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady. She also danced with the Australian Ballet as a young child and teenager. She went on to continue studying and learnt Vaganova, Checcetti, yoga teaching with Swami Saravasti and Les Griffith Tap. She also studied BBO and taught that syllabus for 6-7 years.
Miss Julie studied RAD with Miss Prudence Bowen. When the teaching diploma for the RAD was first being discussed she put her name down immediately. Julie was under the direction of Prudence Bowen and was taught at her studio in Lindfield and privately in her home. She studied Anatomy, Technique and Ballet History as well as the complete new ballet syllabus from the Royal Academy of Dancing. She was being trained to take this syllabus to Italy. She had to travel to Canberra where they had flown an examiner from England to examine her. Pass and be technically perfect or fail. That first year only two in the world passed and Julie was one. This was a big achievement and the two women who got her there were the highly aclaimed Miss Isobel Anderson and Miss Prudence Bowen. Many guest teachers also taught Julie ,Juergen Schneider, Maina Gielgud, Kit Lethby from whom she learnt artistry and technique.
Julie opened her own school at Manly, L'amour de la Danse. The school offered Rap, Funk, Tap, RAD Ballet, Creative Dance, Contortion and Contemporary. The school built up quickly to 300 students. She also studied with the Sydney Dance Company.
Many students have gone on to become distinguished ballet dancers in ballet companies, aerial artists, professional entertainers and teachers.
